Friday Notes

Red Writing Hood
The class did a great job on our play and we had quite a large crowd. Thanks to all those who were able to make it. We recorded the play and will be watching it in class next week.

Fine Arts Night
The 4th Annual Iowa-Grant Fine Arts Night will be Tuesday, March 10 at the High School beginning at 5:30 pm.  Every kindergarten through sixth grade art student will have at least one piece of art on display.  There will also be forensics performances, high school artwork, and band & choir performances by the high school students.

Reading Calendars
The February Reading Calendars are due on Monday, March 2. I will be sending home the March calendars tonight as well.

Unpack Your Adjectives

We have spent some time in language arts discussing adjectives. Here is the School House Rock video that goes with it. We watched it in class today.

Play Tomorrow

Just a reminder that the play is tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 26) at 10:05 in Room 100. It will only take 15-20 minutes to finish. If you are able to make it that is great.

Also, some of the kids will be wearing clothes to match their character. They can certainly change into them at school and after the play.

PJ Day

On Friday, February 27 Iowa-Grant Elementary/Middle School will be having an all school pajama day. Have your kids bring their pajamas and slippers so we can have a relaxing day.

This also lands on a good day for our classroom as we do not have gym on Friday. If the kids would like they can wear their boots to school and just switch into slippers at school. They would obviously still change into boots for recess.

Play Coming Up

Before we switch to the new reading series we are going to a play from our old books, Red Writing Hood. We will invite another class to come watch too, but if parents or grandparents want to come they certainly can too. Here are the details:

New Reading Series

Xtra Math
Congratulations to McKenna for passing the addition portion of extra math!

Journey's Reading Series
In a couple of weeks our class gets the opportunity to pilot a new reading series. Iowa-Grant is in the process of researching different reading series to find for future years.  Our room will be trying out the Journey's series.

I am looking forward to trying something new, but many of the aspects will remain the same. We'll still have a story to read each week. There is a writing, vocabulary, and a grammar section each week just the old series. In early March the students may be bringing home a spelling list that looks a little different, but we'll still have spelling words just like normal too.

I have just started to look into the new book, but am looking forward to trying it. I think it'll have more stories to read each week. There also seems to be more nonfiction stories in the textbook too. I think that'll be good too, as most students primarily fiction for their independent reading.

Valentine's Day Party

Thanks to our Valentine's Day committee for preparing our party. Jeran, Kennedy, Mackenzie, Raymond, and Sarah did a great job of being prepared and having everything ready. Also, thanks to everyone for having Valentine's Day cards for all the students in the room.

I apologize for sending home the the unfinished para-cord bracelets. My plan was to make them during language arts as a reading/following directions activity. Unfortunately, I didn't know that we needed to cut the cord into two pieces. I didn't have and couldn't find any craft glue or clear nail polish to keep the ends from fraying. Hopefully you will be able to help your child create them at home. You can also use a lighter to stop the fraying ends, although we obviously couldn't use that option at school.
