Next Week

The fourth grade will begin their Badger Exam tests next week, May 4-7. We will also work on them the following week, May 11-13. The fourth grade will take the test on right away in the morning. They run each day from 8:10 to 9:30 each day. We will also have a test on the half day, May 6.

Our testing will take up almost our entire reading block so we will not have spelling words next week. We will not have a lot of homework at the time of the testing either.

Mining Museum Field Trip

The Capitol Field Trip is done and know it is time to get ready for the Mining Museum Field Trip! That trip will be on Friday, May 15. It is an afternoon only field trip. We will leave at 11:40, take the tour at 12:15 and return to school at 3:00 p.m. The permission slip is coming home with students tonight.

Students will not need to make any payments for this trip however. The $5 we collected for the Capitol Field Trip was for the movie we weren't able to watch. The Mining Museum costs $4, so we are just returning $1 to each student and the field trip is paid for! If you were a chaperone your child has a $5 bill for your field trip expense as well.

Here are a few pictures from the field trip yesterday. I think the kids had a lot of fun.  Thanks to all the chaperones who were able to join us as well.

Capitol Field Trip Change

There is a letter coming home tonight about a change in the field trip on Monday. We will not be able to do the movie, but will still go to the Capitol. The letter will explain in more detail.

We will leave at 9:30 so for the Chaperons going would you please be at the school a little after 9:00. We'll start packing up around 9:15.

Have a Great Weekend!

Little Surprise

So along with Lumberjack Day Thursday was Take Your Child To Work Day, so Elsie came with me. The kids seemed to have a lot of fun, and I know Elsie did too. Here are a few pictures of her, including the last one right after the school day ended.

Reminders and Notes

Lumberjack Day
Our lumberjack day is tomorrow (April 23) in the afternoon. If kids want to dress up they can, but only for the afternoon. I will have a t-shirt and jeans on in the morning and then just add a stocking cap, flannel shirt, and boots.

Capitol Field Trip
Also our field trip to Madison is next Monday! We go to the theater and then the Capitol. All field trip money is turned in (Thank You) and I think we are ready to go. I am excited to go on a new trip too, even if I have been to the Capitol before.

Upcoming Surprise!
We also have another little surprise for my classroom coming sometime this week. I think the kids will be excited. I'll fill you in on the blog after it has happened!

House on the Rock
Finally, this Sunday and Monday (April 26-27) is the free weekend for locals to go see the House on the Rock. I am planning on taking my own kids on Sunday! Two field trips in a row.

Marker Recycling

A Message From Kindergarten
With Earth Day here, our Kindergarten class wanted to do something fun to help the earth. After some research we found this program created by Crayola to help recycle old markers. Now through May 8th we will be collecting old markers of any kind (even non-Crayola brands) so that we can recycle them and turn them into fuel. There will be a collection box outside of the office where you can place any of your markers. In addition you will also receive a letter in your mailbox for students to take home to parents in case they have any used markers to recycle at home. Crayola does have a website with a lot of lesson plans and activities for teachers and there is a video to show your students what happens to all those markers when we recycle them. I have included the link to the video, it is a little choppy but I think a lot of students will love seeing the whole process. Thank you so much for your help in our adventure to recycle!

Purchasing a Recorder

A reminder from Ms. Stolte that the recorder order form that came home with your child and $3 to purchase one is due to her by Wednesday. Please send the payment in an envelope marked with your child's name.  If your child has a recorder he or she can use already there is no need to purchase one.  If you have any questions, please direct them to Ms. Stolte.

A Few Notes

Lumberjack Day

The fourth grade will be doing their lumberjack day activities that go along with social studies on Thursday, April 23 in the afternoon. John Adametz comes in to show the students some lumberjacking skills, we'll do some large group activities, and have some flapjacks! If your child would like to dress up they can in the afternoon. It's probably easiest to just wear a t-shirt and blue jeans in the morning. Then in the afternoon they can throw their flannel and boots on.

IGEMS Parent/Teacher Club

Calling all Families!! The IGEMS Parent/Teacher Club is sponsoring a dance on April 28, from 6-8 p.m. There will be a DJ playing your favorite songs to shake your groove thing!! The dress-up theme this year is PRINCESS VS. SUPERHERO!
And back by popular demand, there will be a Cake Walk again.
There will also be a Pasta Dinner served from 5:00 to 6:30 at a cost of $8 for adults and $5 for children over age 3. All the proceeds will go to the middle school Trees for Tomorrow trip early this June.

More info to follow next week!

Penny War

The last day for the penny war is tomorrow, April 17. If you have some extra coins you want to drop off that would be great.

Last Day of School

In case you haven't heard there is a new last day of school at Iowa-Grant. Our last day of school will now be Friday, May 29, which will be a full day of school instead of a half day. I think I may have to go back to when I was in fourth grade to remember the last time school ended in May!

NED Show

We had a presentation from the NED Show today. As you can see, one of students was selected and he got a fancy new balloon hat. The presenter did a lot with yo-yos and tomorrow the kids have an opportunity to buy yo-yos for themselves. It is by no means required though.

Here is the presentation:  The NED Show

Here is what your child may ask to buy: NED Shop

Welcome Back!

We are in the stretch run of the school year now. Only two months left! I will continue to enjoy working with this class for the time I have let. I had a few updates/reminders before they return.

Permission Slips - If you haven't turned in your child's permission slips for the Capitol field trip please do that soon. There is also a $5 fee to go to the theater. I have extra copies at school in case the first one is long gone. The field trip is on Monday, April 27.

Field Trip Chaperones -  Along with the field trip, we will be taking three chaperones from our class. I will do the drawing this week as we already have more parents signed up than room. I will let each parent know if they have been chosen.

Reading Calendars -  Don't forget the March reading calendars. Those are due when they return. This is the last month they will get a Pizza Hut coupon for their calendar. I will be sending home the April calendar on Tuesday.

Go Badgers! - The students know I am a huge Michigan fan, but I will definitely be cheering for Wisconsin tonight. I have a feeling there will be a few sleepy looking fourth graders tomorrow morning, but it has been 74 years since the Badgers last won it all!
